2 Days classic Safari
Safari Overview
2-Day Tarangire & Ngorongoro Safari – A Classic Tanzania Wildlife Adventure
Looking for a quick yet unforgettable African safari? Our 2-Day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Safari offers an incredible chance to witness Tanzania’s iconic wildlife and landscapes in just two days. Perfect for travelers with limited time, this compact safari takes you to two of the most famous destinations in Northern Tanzania.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Morning Departure from Arusha
Your journey kicks off in the bustling town of Arusha. After breakfast, your guide
picks you up early— usually around 7:00 AM — and you hit the road. The drive to Tarangire takes about two hours, and you’ll enjoy
scenic views of Maasai villages and rolling hills along the way.
Journey into the Wild: Entering Tarangire
As you pass through the gates of Tarangire, you’ll immediately notice the iconic baobab
trees that dot the landscape like giant upside-down mushrooms.
Famous Baobabs and Landscapes
Tarangire is known for its dusty-red earth, dry riverbeds, and savannah woodlands. It’s one of the most beautiful parks in
northern Tanzania, especially during the dry season when the Tarangire River becomes a
magnet for thirsty animals.
Wildlife Sightings You Can Expect
Elephants — lots of them. Tarangire is famous for its elephant population. But you’ll also see giraffes,
zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, lions, leopards, and countless bird species.
Lunch Inside the Park
Most tour operators provide a packed lunch, which you’ll enjoy in a scenic picnic area
inside the park. Watch out for curious monkeys though — they’ve mastered the art of stealing sandwiches!
Afternoon Game Drive
After lunch, it’s time for another game drive. As the sun begins to soften, animals become
more active. You might even catch a predator stalking its prey.
Transfer to Overnight Lodge or Camp
By late afternoon, you’ll head to your accommodation. Depending on your package, you
could stay in a cozy budget tented camp or a luxurious lodge with a sunset view. Dinner
is served, and after a full day of exploring, you’ll sleep like a baby.
Day 2: Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater
Early Morning Drive to Ngorongoro
Rise and shine! After a quick breakfast, you set off toward the Ngorongoro Conservation
Area. It’s a longer drive — about 3 hours — but well worth it. The views of the Great Rift Valley and highland farms are stunning.
Descending into the Crater
Once you arrive, you descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater — one of the largest intact volcanic calderas in the world.
The Eden of Africa: What Makes the Crater Special
The Ngorongoro Crater is often called “Africa’s Eden.” Why? Because it’s packed with wildlife in a relatively small space,
surrounded by towering crater walls.
The Big Five and Beyond
Lions? Check. Elephants? Check. Rhinos? Yep — Ngorongoro is one of the best places to see black rhinos. Add hippos, hyenas, flamingos,
and warthogs to the list, and you’ve got a true wildlife wonderland.
Picnic Lunch by the Hippo Pool
Enjoy lunch at a designated picnic site next to a lively hippo pool. You’ll hear the grunts
and splashes as these hefty animals cool off in the water.
Final Game Drive and Crater Exit
After lunch, a final drive gives you one last look at this natural wonder before climbing
back up and out of the crater.
Return Journey to Arusha
By late afternoon, you’ll start the drive back to Arusha. Expect to arrive by early evening — tired, dusty, but with a memory card full of photos and a heart full of joy.
Highlights of the Safari
Why Tarangire is a Hidden Gem
Often overshadowed by Serengeti, Tarangire remains a quiet escape full of charm and
wildlife. Its solitude and scenery make it perfect for those who want fewer crowds and more
elephants.
Ngorongoro’s Unique Eco-System
Where else can you find all Big Five animals in one place in a single day? The crater’s self-contained ecosystem means wildlife rarely leaves, giving visitors unparalleled chances to see it all.
Best Time to Go
June to October (dry season) is ideal, as animals gather around water sources. However, the crater is great year-round thanks to its enclosed geography.
